Public Outreach

Bankruptcy Judges and courts routinely engage in important public outreach efforts. Those efforts include financial literacy classes, pro bono assistance projects, Constitution and Citizenship Day events, naturalization ceremonies, bankruptcy law education for state court judges, and civics education programs.

Monarch Schools
Monarch School Project nurtures resilience in unhoused youth and their families. We empower students to influence their own growth in the areas of academic success and social emotional learning. We reinforce the existing strength of families so that students can thrive in school and in life.

The Veterans Village of San Diego
Thanks to Margaret and Mary Jo Heston, we will still be putting on an October 22nd afternoon dedicated to financial literacy and other legal advice to veterans at the VVSD. VVSD provides comprehensive services to homeless and formerly substance-abusing veterans in a residential treatment center. In collaboration with the American Bankruptcy Institute, the CARE program, Legal Aid Society of San Diego, San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program, and the USD Veteran’s Clinic, we have organized an outreach program to help these veterans diagnose and resolve their financial problems, with the potential for follow up with a San Diego Clinic if representation is necessary.
