Please join us for a live recording of the ABA Business Law Section’s popular “Bad Boys of Bankruptcy” podcast hosted by Judge Elizabeth L. Gunn (Bankr. D. D.C.).  Judge Gunn will be joined by Gregory F. Pesce (White & Case) and Judge Paul R. Hage (Bankr. E.D. Mich.), who will discuss the various factors that led to the cryptocurrency industry’s 2022 “crypto winter,” the chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by cryptocurrency giants including FTX, Celsius, BlockFi, Genesis, and Voyager, and some of the unique challenges experienced in cases with hundreds of thousands of “creditors.” 

Bios:

Judge Gunn has served as bankruptcy judge in the District of Columbia since 2020. Judge Gunn is frequent author and speaker on bankruptcy issues and serves in leadership for NCBJ, the FBA Bankruptcy Section, IWIRC, TMA Chesapeake Network, ABA Business Bankruptcy Committee, and more. She is the host of the popular ABA “Bad Boys of Bankruptcy” podcast and is always looking for more guests.

Paul R. Hage serves as a Bankruptcy Judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Michigan sitting in Detroit.  Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Hage was a partner and co-chair of the Business Restructuring, Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights group at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister, LLP.  

Gregory Pesce, a partner in White & Case’s Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Practice in New York and Chicago, is a leading US restructuring and special situations attorney. He focuses on protecting and advancing the financial interests of corporate debtors and stakeholders in complex chapter 11 cases and out-of-court workouts, including crypto-related restructurings, distressed M&A, DIP financings and other rescue capital transactions.
