Hon. Daniel R. Fine
On January 20, 2026, Daniel Fine joined the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He filled the position vacated by Judge Donald Cassling upon his retirement.
Judge Fine was previously a commercial litigation partner at Barack Ferrazzano Kirschbaum & Nagelberg LLP in Chicago, Illinois. His practice centered on complex-commercial disputes involving business torts and related statutory claims. More recently, Fine served as an Administrative Judge with an independent federal agency where he adjudicated whistleblower and other statutory claims raised by federal employees. Fine began his career as a staffer on the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee; there, he worked on legislation and oversight on matters relating to antitrust, intellectual property, and telecommunications law.
Outside of practice and off the bench, Fine serves as the General Chair of the Administration of Justice Committee for the Seventh Circuit Bar Association.
