Judge Odell was appointed on April 10, 2025, by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit as a United States Bankruptcy

Judge for the Northern District of Texas. Judge Odell fills the vacancy created by Retired Judge Robert L. Jones, who he clerked for from 2008 to 2009.

Judge Odell graduated in 2008 from Texas Tech University School of Law and Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business with a JD/MBA. He was a partner with the law firm of Mullin Hoard & Brown, L.L.P. He focused his practice on financial restructurings and bankruptcy, representing debtors, creditors, committees, and trustees. He represented business debtors in Chapter 7, Chapter 11, Subchapter V, and Chapter 12 bankruptcy cases. He also represented creditors in all chapters under the Bankruptcy Code. Judge Odell sat as a member of the pool of Subchapter V trustees for the Eastern, Northern, and Western Districts of Texas.

Prior to taking the bench, Judge Odell was a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar Association, and the Lubbock Area Bar Association. He served as the president and vice president of the West Texas Bankruptcy Bar Association on multiple occasions and a committee member of the Lubbock Area Bar Association. He also served as a committee member for the Audit and Investment Committee with the City of Lubbock, most recently in the capacity as vice chair.
