Hon. Kyu Y. (“Mike”) Paek Appointed in the Southern District of New York

Mike Paek was appointed on July 29, 2024, to serve as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of New York in the Poughkeepsie division. Prior to his appointment, Mike served the Southern District Bankruptcy Court in various capacities, first as a term law clerk to the Honorable James M. Peck (Ret.), then as a career law clerk to the Honorable Stuart M. Bernstein (Ret.), and finally as the Chief Deputy Clerk of Court. Mike began his legal career as a bankruptcy attorney at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP in New York City. He is a graduate of Fordham Law School (J.D. 2008) and the University of Texas at Austin (B.A. 2004). He has since returned to Fordham Law School to teach Advanced Business Bankruptcy as an adjunct professor.

In 2021, Mike was included in the ABI’s “40 Under 40” list of emerging leaders in insolvency. Mike is a coordinating editor of the ABI Journal and has written many articles for the publication. He has also been published in the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law & Practice and the Norton Bankruptcy Law Adviser and co-authors a chapter in the Collier Bankruptcy Practice Guide.
